Joan Chatfield honored as a Living Treasure in 2009 posted thanks to David Tasaka on Vimeo.

The annual celebration of Living Treasures awarded Joan Chatfield one of five citations in February, 2009. This is the acceptance speech of 13 minutes given at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel in Honolulu.

The Living Treasures Award began in 1976 with one honoree. Over the years it was expanded by the Honpa Hongwangi Mission of Hawaii and celebrated at the end of its annual legislative assembly when all the ministers and selected staff of the Buddhist temples across the State came for the business meeting. The presentation ceremony recently has been held at a major hotel in Waikiki with relatives and friends of the honorees joining the members of the legislative assembly. A preliminary video of 4-5 minutes was shown for each of the five honorees, then each came to the stage for their 10-15 minute response.

There is a weekly half-hour program on Channel 52 currently at 9:00 a.m. It is called INTERFAITH CONVERSATIONS and if you go to Olelo’s website you can possibly check out one of the programs. Each one is shown twice and later it is hoped that they can be used for discussion. The posting is also on the website of the ALL BELIEVERS NETWORK.
